Trades Assistant – Mechanical Workshop

Due to continued business requirements, an exciting opportunity now exists for a Trades Assistant to join their highly skilled Service Centre team based in Smithfield, NSW.
This permanent full-time opportunity would ideally suit someone with good hands-on mechanical aptitude and practical workshop experience who is looking to further develop their skills within a professional engineering environment.
Working alongside experienced Service Technicians, you will assist with the disassembly, assembly, servicing, preparation and movement of customer products while helping maintain a safe, clean and highly organised workshop environment.
Role Tasks & Duties
The role includes, but is not limited to:
- Assist qualified Service Technicians with the disassembly and assembly of customer products under their guidance and supervision.
- Assist Service Technicians with repairs, servicing and general workshop activities.
- Undertake general cleaning and preparation of mechanical components and parts.
- Clean, organise and maintain workshop areas to ensure a safe, efficient and professional working environment.
- Receive and assist with the handling of incoming customer products.
- Undertake painting and final assembly of serviced and repaired products.
- Pack and prepare completed products and components for shipment to customers.
- Assist with the movement, handling and positioning of mechanical components and equipment.
- Operate workshop plant and equipment, including overhead cranes and forklifts, where appropriately licensed and authorised.
- Maintain tools, equipment and designated work areas to a high standard.
- Support qualified technicians with additional product repairs and servicing activities as required.
- Follow all company procedures, work instructions and WHS requirements at all times.
- Maintain positive working relationships with Service Technicians, the Workshop Supervisor and wider Service Centre team.
- Assist with general workshop duties as required to support the efficient operation of the Service Centre.
Required Skills, Experience & Competencies
- Previous general mechanical, workshop, trades assistant or similar hands-on experience.
- Good mechanical aptitude and a genuine interest in mechanical equipment, engineering and maintenance.
- Relevant practical experience working with mechanical products, components, machinery or similar equipment.
- Experience using hand and power tools within a workshop or industrial environment.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively under the guidance of qualified Service Technicians.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and following established WHS procedures.
- Good attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards of workmanship.
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative workshop team.
- Reliable, punctual and possessing a positive work ethic.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Current Forklift Licence preferred.
- Previous experience operating an overhead crane preferred.
