Senior Mechanical / Project Engineer
Gold Processing | Owner’s Team | Brownfield Project | 12–18 Month Contract

Take a key owner-side role supporting the conversion and restart of an existing mineral-processing facility into a gold processing plant.

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical / Project Engineer to join its client’s owner-side project delivery team on a significant brownfield processing-plant project.

This is a high-priority, long-term contract opportunity for a practical and commercially aware engineer with strong experience across gold processing, mechanical design review, vendor packages, multidisciplinary interfaces and brownfield project execution.

The position will initially provide part-time remote engineering support during the design and package-review phase before transitioning into a site-based role as the project moves into construction, mechanical completion and commissioning.

Why Join This Project?

  • Join the owner’s project delivery team on a significant brownfield gold-processing project
  • Provide technical input across design, construction, mechanical completion and commissioning
  • Review and influence designs produced by engineering consultants, contractors and equipment vendors
  • Work across crushing, grinding, CIL, reagents, pumps, piping and materials-handling packages
  • Secure a 12–18-month contract with the opportunity to support the project through multiple delivery phases
  • Represent an established WA engineering consultancy with extensive mining and mineral-processing experience

The Opportunity
Working as part of the client’s owner-side project delivery team, you will provide mechanical engineering and package-coordination support during the conversion and restart of an existing mineral-processing facility.

This is not a purely office-based design position. You will act as a key technical link between the owner, engineering consultants, equipment vendors and construction contractors.

The role will initially focus on reviewing designs and coordinating packages before transitioning to site-based engineering support during construction and project completion.

Your responsibilities will include the following but not limited to:

  • Design Review
  • Work Pack Review
  • Technical Support
  • Construction Phase Support

About You
You will be a degree-qualified Mechanical Engineer with strong project-delivery experience across gold or mineral-processing facilities.

You will be comfortable working within an owner’s team and capable of reviewing, challenging and coordinating work produced by multiple consultants, contractors and vendors.

To be considered, you should bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong experience across gold or mineral-processing plant projects
  • Demonstrated brownfield plant refurbishment, modification or restart experience
  • Strong mechanical design-review capability
  • Practical knowledge of fixed plant, mechanical equipment and piping systems
  • Experience coordinating vendor packages and contractor scopes
  • Ability to manage interfaces across multiple engineering disciplines
  • Sound understanding of constructability, operability and maintainability
  • Practical construction and site-installation experience
  • Strong technical reporting and documentation skills
  • Confidence reviewing RFIs, technical queries and contractor submissions
  • Strong stakeholder communication and coordination skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within an owner-side project team
  • Willingness to transition into site-based support during construction
  • Current Australian working rights

This role will suit an engineer who is honest, delivery-focused and collaborative; someone who can identify problems early, communicate clearly and provide practical solutions without unnecessary ego.
Relevant Plant Experience
Experience across several of the following areas will be important:

  • Crushing and screening
  • Grinding and milling
  • CIL/CIP circuits
  • Reagent systems
  • Pumps and slurry systems
  • Process piping
  • Tanks and pressure equipment
  • Conveyors and materials handling
  • Mechanical equipment packages
  • Brownfield plant modifications
  • Existing equipment refurbishment and recommissioning
  • Mechanical completion and commissioning

Highly Regarded
The following experience would be particularly advantageous:

  • Direct gold-processing plant experience
  • Plant conversion, refurbishment or restart projects
  • Previous experience within an owner’s project delivery team
  • Owner-side or EPCM design-review experience
  • Mechanical package or area-engineering responsibility
  • Vendor-package evaluation and coordination
  • Site-based construction and field-engineering support
  • Mechanical completion, punch listing and commissioning
  • Experience determining whether existing plant should be retained, modified or replaced
  • CPEng or equivalent professional accreditation

You may currently be working as a:

  • Senior Mechanical Engineer
  • Senior Mechanical Project Engineer
  • Owner’s Mechanical Engineer
  • Mechanical Package Engineer
  • Lead Mechanical Engineer
  • Area Engineer – Mechanical
  • Project Engineer – Fixed Plant
  • Brownfield Project Engineer

What’s On Offer

  • High-priority 12–18-month contract opportunity
  • Transition to site-based support during construction
  • Key position within the client’s owner-side project delivery team
  • Exposure across design review, construction and project completion
  • Technically challenging brownfield gold-processing project
  • Opportunity to influence major design and package decisions
  • Immediate commencement for the right candidate
  • Competitive remuneration aligned with experience and project requirements
  • Support from an established WA engineering and mining consultancy
