Mine Planning Engineer (Underground)
2XM Recruit is partnering with a leading underground mining operation to source an experienced Mine Planning Engineer for a FIFO opportunity from Perth. This is an exciting chance to join a technically focused and high-performing team within a well-established operation that continues to invest in mine development, operational excellence, and long-term growth.
Working closely with the Technical Services team, you will play a key role in delivering safe, practical, and efficient mine plans that support production targets and optimise underground mining performance.
The Role
Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining mine plans and schedules across short, medium, and long-term horizons. You will collaborate with operations, geology, survey, and technical services personnel to ensure plans are achievable, aligned with operational requirements, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain weekly, monthly, quarterly, and life-of-mine schedules.
- Produce underground mine designs including development, production, ventilation, and infrastructure layouts.
- Monitor mining performance against plan and identify opportunities for optimisation.
- Conduct mine scheduling and resource allocation activities to maximise productivity.
- Prepare drill and blast designs as required.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and operational reporting processes.
- Work closely with underground operations teams to ensure practical and executable mine plans.
- Assist with ventilation planning, mine sequencing, and infrastructure development.
- Analyse production data and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Ensure all planning activities comply with site safety standards, statutory requirements, and company procedures.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering.
- Previous experience in underground hard rock mining environments.
- Demonstrated experience using mine planning and scheduling software such as Deswik, MineSched, Surpac, Vulcan, or similar.
- Strong understanding of underground mining methods and production processes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively across technical and operational teams.
- Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Current Australian Driver’s Licence.
Highly Regarded
- First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate or progression towards statutory qualifications.
- Experience with ventilation planning and mine optimisation projects.
- Exposure to underground gold, base metals, or bulk commodity operations.
