Location: Nowergup (until end of 2026), then Bellevue (Jan 2027 onwards)
Roster: Rotating Day / Night shift work (nightshift = 20% loading) – Temp to Permanent role
Pay Rate: $64.31 p/h + Penalties + Super

About the Role
Working as part of an established rail fleet maintenance team in Nowergup until end of the year, before you then move with the business out to Bellevue, you will be directly responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing the passenger train fleet that powers Perth’s public transport network.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this hands-on trade role sees you performing preventative and corrective mechanical maintenance across passenger rolling stock. You will work in a fast-paced, safety-critical workshop environment to ensure fleet assets remain safe, reliable, and compliant with key operational standards.

These positions are ideal for a safety-focused Mechanical Fitter or Fitter/Turner with exposure to a maintenance environment, who enjoys complex fault-finding, dynamic troubleshooting, and working within a close-knit team of trade specialists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mechanical Maintenance & Fault-Finding: Carry out planned maintenance, dynamic troubleshooting, and emergency mechanical repairs across the passenger rail fleet.
  • Reliability Enhancements: Working closely with Engineering / Maintenance teams to identify fault resolutions and improve fleet performance / reliability whilst in operation.
  • Systems Maintenance: Inspect, test, and maintain heavy mechanical components, including tractions motors, gearboxes, brake systems, wheelsets and bogies. 
  • Safety & Compliance: Drive a zero-harm safety culture on site; ensure all work adheres to strict Rail Safety Act standards, risk assessments, and site isolation procedures.
  • Documentation & Reporting: IT Skills essential to allow you to accurately complete work orders, testing documentation, and asset logbooks within internal maintenance management systems.
  • Continuous Improvement: Work collaboratively with site engineers and supervisors to identify root causes of repetitive electrical faults and improve overall fleet reliability.

What You’ll Need

  • Qualifications: Recognized Australian Mechanical Trade Certificate, Cert 3 or higher.
  • Background: Strong background in industrial or mechanical maintenance (manufacturing, aviation, marine, heavy processing, cranes, mining mobile plant or heavy machinery)
  • Safety & Integrity: Demonstrated commitment to strict WHS/HSEQ protocols, isolation procedures, and safety compliance.
  • Requirements: Ability to pass a Rail Medical, pre-employment Drug & Alcohol screen, and hold a valid C-Class Driver’s License.
