Mechanical Designer / Draftsperson 2XM Recruit is recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Designer / Draftsperson on behalf of a client specialising in the truck, trailer and heavy transport equipment manufacturing sector.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically capable designer with strong mechanical drafting skills and experience translating engineering concepts into detailed, manufacturing-ready drawings. You will work closely with engineering, fabrication and manufacturing teams to support new builds, customised equipment, repairs and modifications, ensuring designs meet relevant Australian standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret engineering concepts and design specifications, translating them into accurate, detailed CAD models and drawings in accordance with applicable Australian Design Rules (ADR) and Road Vehicle Standards (RVS) legislation.
- Produce detailed engineering drawings for new builds, custom equipment, repairs and modification projects.
- Prepare General Arrangement (GA) drawings for quotations and customer approvals, along with workshop drawings, fabrication layouts, cutting schedules and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Support research and development activities to improve product quality and contribute to the development of new and updated transport equipment designs.
- Provide technical support to engineering, drafting, fabrication and manufacturing teams, clarifying design intent and resolving technical queries.
- Investigate design and manufacturing issues, assisting with practical and effective engineering solutions.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation, design files and drafting data in accordance with company procedures.
- Ensure drawings comply with AS 1100 drafting standards and relevant regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across product design, manufacturing processes and engineering documentation.
Skills and Experience To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in mechanical drafting within the truck, trailer or heavy transport equipment manufacturing industry.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
- Demonstrated experience working with ADR and RVS legislation in a design or manufacturing environment.
- Experience producing detailed engineering drawings in accordance with AS 1100 standards.
- A strong understanding of mechanical design principles, fabrication methods and manufacturing processes.
- The ability to interpret engineering specifications, compliance requirements and customer needs and translate them into practical design solutions.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
A qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
