About the Role
Working as part of an established rail fleet maintenance team in East Perth, you will be directly responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing the passenger train fleet that powers Perth’s public transport network.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this hands-on trade role sees you performing preventative and corrective electrical maintenance across passenger rolling stock. You will work in a fast-paced, safety-critical workshop environment to ensure fleet assets remain safe, reliable, and compliant with key operational standards.

This position is ideal for a safety-focused Industrial Electrician or Electrician with heavy equipment exposure, who enjoys complex fault-finding, dynamic troubleshooting, and working within a close-knit team of trade specialists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electrical Maintenance & Fault-Finding: Carry out planned maintenance, dynamic troubleshooting, and emergency electrical repairs across the passenger rail fleet.
  • Systems Maintenance: Inspect, test, and maintain heavy electrical components, variable speed drives (VSDs), DC motors, and control circuitry.
  • Safety & Compliance: Drive a zero-harm safety culture on site; ensure all work adheres to strict Rail Safety Act standards, risk assessments, and site isolation procedures.
  • Documentation & Reporting: IT Skills essential to allow you to accurately complete work orders, testing documentation, and asset logbooks within internal maintenance management systems.
  • Continuous Improvement: Work collaboratively with site engineers and supervisors to identify root causes of repetitive electrical faults and improve overall fleet reliability.

What You’ll Need

  • Qualifications: Recognized Australian Electrical Trade Qualification (A-Grade Electrical License) is essential.
  • Industrial Background: Strong background in heavy industrial electrical maintenance (manufacturing, heavy processing, mining infrastructure, high voltage, or heavy machinery). Note: Candidates with purely commercial or residential experience will not be considered.
  • Technical Skills (Preferred, not essential):
    • Experience with industrial control equipment and relay logic (non-PLC specific control systems).
    • Direct experience maintaining and troubleshooting DC motors and Variable Speed Drives (VSDs).
  • Safety & Integrity: Demonstrated commitment to strict WHS/HSEQ protocols, isolation procedures, and safety compliance.
  • Requirements: Ability to pass a Rail Medical, pre-employment Drug & Alcohol screen, and hold a valid C-Class Driver’s License.
