2XM Recruit is partnering with a well-established WA-owned electrical engineering contractor delivering electrical infrastructure and High Voltage solutions across Western Australia’s mining and industrial sectors.

Due to continued growth, our client is looking to appoint an Intermediate or Senior Draftsperson to work closely with their Engineering Manager and Engineering team, producing detailed 2D and 3D designs for switchrooms, switchboards and associated electrical infrastructure.

Importantly, you do not need to come from an electrical background.

Our client is equally interested in experienced Civil, Structural or Mechanical Draftspersons / Designers who possess strong 2D and 3D capability and are interested in applying their experience within a different engineering environment.

If you have strong drafting fundamentals, understand how things are designed and constructed, and enjoy working closely with engineers to turn concepts and mark-ups into practical designs, our client can teach you the electrical side. Why Join?

The Opportunity

This is a broad drafting and design position sitting closely within our clients engineering function.

Working directly with the Engineering Manager and wider engineering team, you will take engineer mark-ups, concepts and technical information and develop these into accurate, practical 2D and 3D drawings and models.

A significant focus of the position will be the development of switchroom designs and switchboard-related drawings, including the physical arrangement and layout of equipment.

You don’t necessarily need previous switchroom or switchboard experience.

Our client is prepared to provide the electrical knowledge and project-specific training to someone who already possesses strong drafting capability and the right approach to engineering design.

The business is particularly interested in people who can bring experience from other disciplines and potentially introduce new ideas, better ways of working and different approaches to 3D design and drafting. What You’ll Be Working On

Your day-to-day responsibilities are expected to include:

• Producing detailed 2D and 3D switchroom designs
• Developing drawings from engineer mark-ups and technical information
• Producing switchboard and equipment arrangement drawings
• General Arrangement (GA) drawings
• Equipment layouts
• Structural and fabrication-related detailing associated with switchrooms
• Developing and updating engineering drawings throughout project delivery
• Producing revisions and incorporating engineering changes
• Preparing accurate drawings suitable for manufacture and construction
• Supporting drawing reviews and design coordination
• Maintaining drawing registers, revisions and document accuracy
• Working closely with the Engineering Manager and Electrical Engineers
• Supporting the continued development of our clients drafting and 3D design capability

The role will suit someone who enjoys understanding how something will actually be manufactured, assembled and constructed, rather than simply producing drawings. Your Background

More important is your ability to take engineering information and turn it into accurate, practical and constructible drawings and 3D models. What We’re Looking For

Ideally, you’ll bring:

• Intermediate to Senior-level drafting/design experience
• Strong 2D drafting capability
• Demonstrated 3D modelling experience
• Ability to interpret engineer mark-ups, sketches and technical information
• Good understanding of engineering drawings and design principles
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to work collaboratively with engineers
• Practical understanding of constructability, fabrication or installation
• Ability to manage drawing revisions and changing project requirements
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• A willingness to learn and develop within a new engineering discipline

• AutoCAD
• Autodesk Fusion 360
• SolidWorks

Strong 3D capability will be particularly attractive.

If you are an experienced AutoCAD user without MicroStation experience, we still want to hear from you. Electrical Experience – Highly Regarded, Not Essential
Previous experience with any of the following would be advantageous:

• Switchrooms
• Switchboards
• Electrical panels
• Electrical schematics
• MCCs
• Substations
• Electrical equipment layouts
• Mining electrical infrastructure
• Electrical fabrication drawings

However, direct electrical drafting experience is not essential.

Our client is prepared to teach the electrical component of the role to someone with strong drafting fundamentals and the right attitude.

A Civil, Structural or Mechanical Draftsperson who can bring strong 2D/3D capability and a different perspective to the engineering team could be particularly well suited. Who Will Succeed?
