Exciting opportunity for an ambitious self-starter to join a major tier 1 company as a Lead Buyer within their successful Procurement Division, based in Auburn, NSW!

My client, an Australian renowned and main player in the Rail and Heavy Maintenance industry, have continued to go from strength to strength and expand, thus creating a rare opportunity to join their highly dynamic Procurement team.

The role of Lead buyer is an integral and key role and will be reporting directly to the Procurement Manager.

The successful applicant would have come from a heavy industry background and must possess excellent communication skills as you would be accountable for executing core company Procurement Strategies to ensure effective supplier and vendor relationships are maintained and third-party performance is in line with or exceeds commercial agreements, supporting the safe and efficient delivery of products.

You will also be accountable for resolving any problems that arise, improving processes and contributing to ensuring the system set up supports effective and accurate purchasing activity.

This is an ASAP start for the right candidate and comes with a very competitive hourly salary. The role is initially a 6-month, fixed term, contract position with a view to go permanent.

Skills and experience needed to be successful in the role:

• 2 years or more experience working in a similar or in a role with transferable skills
• Tertiary qualification in Business/Supply Chain/Commerce/Finance or a related discipline Is preferred
• Product and technical knowledge of heavy industry parts and components – Strong resourcing capabilities
• Experience in a Supply Chain/procurement and sourcing function
• Previous experience using SAP or similar system for purchasing, stock management and reporting.
• Ability to review and analyse data, experience in generation of reports and forming recommendations for solutions and improvement
• Good business and commercial awareness
• Solid experienced gained in the rail, automotive, military, defence, avionics, or any other safety critical environment
• Record of driving business performance and a culture of continuous improvement.
• Critical thinking skills gained from previous (and similar) positions.
• Analytical, with advanced data analytic skills.
• Process, detail and deadline driven.
• Ability to work well under pressure.
