I am currently recruiting for an experienced Fleet System Engineer, with solid rail and Engineering experience for a permanent role with my client, a tier 1, globally renowned company.

Working on this prestigious and innovative project, you will be an integral part in helping to shape Auckland’s rail transport to the highest level for years to come.

Directly reporting to the projects Engineering Manager, as Fleet System Engineer, your main core responsibilities will include:

  • Undertake system engineering activities (mechanical / electrical) on diesel and electrical passenger fleets and provide system (mechanical / electrical) engineering support, drawing on specific capabilities from the project leaders where required
  • Undertake the projects rollingstock activities in line with technical and operational compliances applicable to the railway industry
  • Develop proposals and undertake approved enhancement and optimization projects to deliver financial and operation outcomes required from the project and deliver performance and reliability objectives
  • Report and act on the technical issues impacting the rollingstock fleet.
  • Undertake investigations and develop modifications in conjunction with both the rollingstock manufactures, system suppliers and maintainers.
  • Negotiate with Rollingstock manufactures and maintainers cure plans and technical solutions to issues impacting the fleets
  • Facilitate root cause analysis and develop performance improvements through continuous improvement
  • Respond to technical /engineering queries or problems that occur with electrical and diesel passenger fleets.
  • Undertaking project reporting to all stakeholders on engineering activities and rollingstock condition.
  • Undertaking other projects, initiatives, tasks as directed by the Procurement & Material Manager.
The idea candidate will possess:

  • A Degree or appropriate engineering trade qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in System Engineering roles
  • Chartered Professional engineer status
  • The ability to forge and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, customers and suppliers.
  • Strong communication skills including strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • The ability to work independently to organise and prioritise demands and handle multiple complex tasks
  • Proven ability to manage and successfully deliver engineering activities with a dedicated small team of multi-faceted engineers a small team.
