Fleet Manager – Locomotive Fleet

Are you a Fleet Manager looking for a change and a new challenge?

Or maybe you are a Senior Engineer (ideally with fleet and locomotive experience) who has led projects and teams but have a flair for business and now want to move onto a commercial and leadership role?

If the answer is yes to either of the above, then I would love to talk to you!

My client, a global, tier 1 transport company, is looking for a relationship and solutions driven professional for the role of Fleet Manager – Locomotive Fleet to take on the helm of the Locomotive fleet maintenance team.

Based in Melbourne, this is a fulltime, permanent position to start in the New Year and is a fantastic opportunity for an organized, yet personable go-getter who is looking to step up and be noticed!

Reporting to the Site Manager, the primary purpose of this position is to manage the account and commercial contract of the fleet - Drawing on your knowledge and experience within Rail or another similar heavy industry environment, this high-profile role will see you building and nurturing relationships with senior stakeholders (both internally and externally), by being able to give honest and genuine solutions and feedback should issues arise, but still with understanding and empathy when and where needed.

The main requirements of this role are to:

• Manage the contract to ensure expected commercial and financial outcomes.

• Ensure that all operational and commercial requirements of the contract are clearly communicated and understood across all stakeholders.

• Work with finance team to ensure monthly invoicing is correct, submitted and problems are resolved in a timely fashion to minimise work in process (WIP) and ageing debt.

• Ensure operational performance is met within the scope of the contract and meets customer’s expectations

• Work with all maintenance providers (Internal and External) to schedule modifications, maintenance, repair and service, always ensuring rolling stock downtime with the customer is minimised, therefore enabling to maintain and maximise scheduled operations.

• Work with engineering to monitor variables affecting availability and reliability of the client’s fleet and initiate corrective actions where required.

• Ensure compliance with all record keeping requirements.

To be considered and be successful in this role, you must possess the following requirements and qualities:

• Previous experience within a heavy industry environment (rail would be advantageous, but not a deal breaker if not)

• Must be customer focused, team oriented, accountable and results driven.

• Demonstrated ability to understand and manage maintenance or construction-based contracts.

• Demonstrated experience and ability to understand and report financial and commercial outcomes.

• Appropriate Engineering or trade qualifications will be highly regarded (on the job experience which is comparable if the above are not held would also be considered for the right candidate!)

• Strong communication skills (oral & written) including strong negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally.

• Demonstrated ability to work independently to organise and prioritise demands, handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set and meet deadlines and follow-through within a fast paced environment with multiple and competing demands.

• Must have full and current work rights in either Australia or New Zealand (Visa sponsorship is not available).

In return for your efforts, you would be paid an attractive salary, be part of a fantastic organization that value their employees and reward them for their hard work and achievements.

Please note that relocation assistance will also be offered to the successful candidate if they currently reside in a different Australian state to Melbourne/or if currently based in New Zealand.
