Charity Event for Colleague and Friend Raises Almost $20k

Following the passing of good friend, footballer and ex 2XM team member, Deklan Gilmartin in July, some staff from 2XM Group were involved in the setting up and participation of a charity football tournament named The DG10 Cup on 29 November 2020. It forms part of the Deklan Gilmartin Foundation.

The Deklan Gilmartin Foundation was formed to ensure Deklan’s legacy lives on, raising money for disadvantaged kids to play the sport they love and was Deklan’s passion. Deklan coached a lot of younger players in his community, with a real drive to help, nurture and support them.

Steve Abbott, who worked closely and also played alongside Deklan for a season, said he was a natural recruiter and footballer.

“Deklan was part of the 2XM Technology team but quickly became friends with most people in all divisions.

This was Dekkers first position in recruitment and he took to the role like a duck to water. Recruitment seemed easy to Dekkers as he naturally possessed every trait needed to be successful.

He was professional, hardworking, trustworthy, goal orientated and very likeable. He had an infectious personality and was always positive.”

Mark McAlpine, who was also close to Deklan having played football with him for several years, said that outside of work he had a busy life.

“Dekkers was always up to something, playing football, going to the gym or just being outdoors taking his dog Tilly almost everywhere with him in the process. He was great company and made all social events better with his presence.

On top of all that, his footballing ability is of the highest quality, he could do things a lot of us could only dream of.”

Steve and Mark were lucky enough to play their part in the DG10 Cup, Steve represented 2xm Recruit within one of the Coogee United Teams made up of lads Deklan had most recently played with and Mark within the DG10 Select side made up of close friends and family.

2xm Group are proud to have donated to this foundation that has now raised close to $20,000, thanks to the support of friends, family and colleagues. 2XM Group are proud to have had Dekkers play a part in their journey and will continue to support this foundation moving forward.

We wish Deklan’s family all the best and look forward to finding out more details on up and coming events set up by the Deklan Gilmartin Foundation.
