Senior Urban Civil Engineer

A leading multi-disciplinary, global engineering and advisory consultancy is expanding its civil engineering team and is looking for a Senior Urban Civil Engineer to join its Sydney operation.
This is an opportunity to work with a business delivering major projects across the built environment, property, infrastructure, transport, education, health and industrial sectors. The civil team works on a diverse portfolio of land development and urban infrastructure projects, providing engineers with exposure to projects from early concept and planning through to detailed design, construction and delivery.

You’ll be joining an established team of civil engineers, designers and drafters, working on technically challenging projects where you’ll have genuine responsibility for design outcomes, client relationships and project delivery.
The Opportunity As a Senior Urban Civil Engineer, you will support the delivery of civil and land development projects, as well as provide technical and hands on design input while also supporting junior engineers and contributing to project management and client relationships.

You will work across a variety of projects including:

  • Residential and mixed-use developments
  • Commercial and industrial developments
  • Education and health precincts
  • Urban renewal and masterplanned developments
  • Infrastructure upgrades
  • Roads, accessways and car parks
  • Subdivision and land development projects
  • Stormwater and water-sensitive urban design projects

Key Responsibilities

Civil & Land Development Design

  • Lead the delivery of civil engineering designs from concept through to detailed design and construction
  • Develop practical solutions for grading, drainage, access, earthworks and servicing
  • Review and oversee designs produced by engineers and designers
  • Provide technical guidance across multiple projects

Stormwater & Drainage

  • Design and review stormwater drainage networks, including pits, pipes and overland flow paths
  • Undertake hydraulic modelling and analysis using DRAINS
  • Undertake water quality modelling using MUSIC
  • Design detention, retention and stormwater management systems
  • Ensure designs meet relevant authority and project requirements

Grading & Earthworks

  • Develop detailed grading and earthworks strategies
  • Coordinate finished surface levels with drainage, access and surrounding interfaces
  • Undertake cut-and-fill assessments and earthworks optimisation
  • Deliver practical and constructible solutions

Roads & Pavement

  • Design internal roads, accessways, intersections and car parks
  • Undertake pavement design and assessment
  • Consider subgrade conditions, traffic loading and constructability
  • Coordinate road and pavement solutions with drainage and earthworks

Project & Client Management

  • Manage multiple projects and competing deadlines
  • Liaise directly with clients, councils, authorities and other project stakeholders
  • Attend project meetings and provide technical advice
  • Respond to RFIs and design changes throughout construction
  • Assist with project planning, resourcing and delivery
  • Contribute to proposals, tenders and business development where required

Leadership & Mentoring

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers
  • Review engineering designs and documentation
  • Work closely with designers and drafters to ensure high-quality deliverables
  • Support the continued development of the civil engineering team

You will have:

  • Australian consulting experience across urban/land development projects.
  • Broad design experience across key areas of land development, including stormwater, drainage, grading, earthworks and associated civil infrastructure.
  • Strong civil design software capability such as DRAINS, MUSIC, AutoCAD. 
  • The ability to independently manage projects and deliverables
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A willingness to mentor and develop less experienced engineers
