Health & Safety Manager
2XM Recruit is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead our clients health, safety and risk function, while overseeing key governance, compliance and business management systems.
Reporting to the General Manager, you’ll provide both strategic direction and hands-on support across the business, working closely with senior leaders, operational teams and external stakeholders to manage risk, maintain compliance and drive continuous improvement.
This is a senior role for someone who can take ownership of the HSE function, but also understands the bigger picture around risk, governance, compliance, auditing and business systems.
Rail experience is highly desirable. We’re looking for a senior HSE professional who is comfortable operating at both a strategic and operational level.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Leading the organisation’s health, safety and risk strategy and supporting a strong safety culture across the business.
- Maintaining and continuously improving the Business Management System, policies, procedures and governance frameworks.
- Leading the organisation’s integrated risk management framework, including identification, assessment and treatment of business and operational risks.
- Providing practical advice to leaders and operational teams on health, safety, legislative and compliance requirements.
- Monitoring changes to legislation, standards and regulatory requirements and ensuring the business remains compliant.
- Overseeing internal audits, compliance reporting and corrective actions.
- Coordinating AS/ISO accreditation activities and acting as a key contact for internal and external auditors.
- Supporting the management of contractual, regulatory and business compliance obligations.
- Reviewing processes and systems to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Promoting risk-based thinking, quality management and strong health, safety and environmental practices.
- Providing regular reporting, advice and recommendations to senior management.
- Leading, coaching and supporting team members where required.
You’ll ideally bring:
- Proven experience in a Health & Safety Manager, HSE Manager, HSEQ Manager or similar senior role
- Strong experience across health and safety, risk, compliance and management systems
- Rail experience is extremely desirable, with experience in transport, infrastructure or another highly regulated operational environment also considered.
- Strong knowledge of relevant WHS/OHS legislation, regulatory requirements and management systems
- Experience working with rail safety legislation and rail safety management systems will be highly regarded
- Experience with internal and external audits and AS/ISO management system accreditation
- A relevant tertiary qualification in HSE, risk, compliance, quality, governance or a related discipline
- Formal auditing qualifications or demonstrated management systems auditing experience
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work confidently with senior leaders and operational teams
- A current Class C driver’s licence
