civil scope will encompass a mix of the following:
1. Demolition & Decommissioning (Brownfield Site Preparation)
- Removal of Legacy Structures: Unbolting and removing old solar arrays, mounting frames, and battery cubicles.
- Footing Remediation: Breaking out or removing old concrete pads, plinths, or post foundations if they interfere with the new layout or are structurally compromised.
- Redundant Cabling: Trenching out or safely abandoning/capping obsolete underground conduits and cabling in accordance with rail standards.
2. Earthworks & Site Civil Preparation
- Clearing & Grubbing: Removing vegetation, brush, and topsoil within the solar array footprint and safety clearance zones to ensure direct sunlight and fire mitigation.
- Grading & Compaction: Cut-and-fill earthworks to level the ground for new equipment pads and prevent water ponding around electrical assets.
- Access Tracks & Work Pads: Establishing or upgrading light-vehicle/crane access tracks and hardstand aprons for delivery trucks and ongoing maintenance vehicles.
3. Foundations & Structural Support
- Solar Array Footings: Installation of deep ground-screw piles, driven steel posts, or cast-in-place reinforced concrete pads designed to withstand high wind loads (e.g., cyclonic ratings if in northern WA).
- Equipment & Battery Shelters: Pouring reinforced concrete slab plinths to elevate and support thermal control cubicles, battery banks, and solar regulator enclosures.
- Impact Protection: Installing steel bollards or guardrails to protect low-lying solar frames and equipment huts from maintenance vehicle strikes.
4. Trenching, Conduits & Underground Services
- Cable Trenching: Excavating underground cable trenches (typically 600mm to 1000mm deep) between the solar frames, battery shelters, equipment bungalows, and level crossing signaling hardware.
- Conduit & Warning Laying: Laying high-density conduit, bedding sand, cable marker tape, and backfilling with mechanical compaction.
- Under-Track Crossings (UTX): If cabling needs to cross the track to power opposing boom gates, flashing light masts, or track circuits, civil works may involve directional drilling or installing dedicated UTX conduits under the ballast.
5. Earthing & Lightning Protection Earthworks
- Earthing Grid Excavation: Trenching and driving earth rods around the perimeter of the solar array and equipment shelter to form an integrated earthing mat.
- Surge Protection Bonding: Connecting all structural steelwork, battery enclosures, and solar framing into the main earthing system for lightning protection.
6. Drainage & Final Site Reinstatement
- Stormwater & Erosion Control: Constructing swales, table drains, or minor culverts to divert overland flow away from solar panels, battery shelters, and track formations.
- Crushed Rock / Gravel Capping: Spreading aggregate or blue-metal gravel across the compound to control weed growth, suppress dust, and prevent mud build-up during wet weather.
- Site Restoration: Restoring disturbed ground outside the secure compound boundary to meet environmental and rail corridor compliance standards.
