Are you an experienced Fleet, Operations or Maintenance Leader with a strong background in fleet maintenance and management in either Rail, Rolling Stock, Heavy Vehicles or Equipment, or Transport?

Do you excel at managing contract obligations, yard operations, and driving a strong Zero Harm safety culture? Are you looking for a pivotal leadership role with key decision-making responsibility, where you can lead a dedicated team and manage high-value maintenance contracts for key public transport networks?

Then this could be the role for you!

About the Role:
Reporting to the General Manager and forming part of the ELT, you will play a critical leadership role in overseeing the maintenance and yard operations teams across key rail sites.

Initially, based in Nowergup, you will look after the existing team of Maintenance personnel, yard operations and others. In early 2027, operations are moving from Nowergup to a new facility in Bellevue, and this role will play a critical part in moving current operations from Nowergup to Bellevue, including future fleet expansion initiatives.

This position will see you take operational ownership of maintenance supervisors, operations coordinators, and administration staff to ensure rollingstock is maintained in a fit-for-purpose, safe, and highly reliable condition.

You will act as a primary point of contact for key client stakeholders, coordinating communication to them in the event of incidents or breakdowns, ensuring strict adherence to contract obligations, KPI targets, and safety standards while driving continuous improvement and team performance.

The role will suit a hands-on, strategic, and safety-focused leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, understands the criticality of fleet availability, and excels at solving complex operational challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contract Management & Compliance: Oversee maintenance contract performance (including reliability, overhauls, cleaning, and modifications), ensuring all activities align with client contractual obligations and work with the General Manager to provide information required for reporting purposes.
  • Yard & Fleet Operations: Direct day-to-day maintenance operations (Nowergup/Bellevue) and maintenance schedules to ensure vehicle availability, seamless passenger train hand-over times, and adherence to service schedules.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of up to 5 direct reports and 45 indirect; handle resource planning, performance management, escalation issues and roster optimization (using KRONOS).
  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders, including the PTA, Yardmasters, and site maintenance staff.
  • Safety, Quality & Asset Management: Drive a “Zero Harm” safety culture in compliance with the Rail Safety Act; enforce quality standards, risk assessments, and asset management protocols across all maintenance activities.
  • Reporting & Financial Control: Monitor project budgets, track contract KPIs, and deliver accurate operational reports to the General Manager.

What You’ll Need:

  • Proven leadership/management experience within a Rail, Rollingstock, Heavy Vehicles / Equipment, or Transportation Maintenance environment (Logistics and Transport Fleet would be considered).
  • Understand the criticality of “Fleet availability” and what it means to the contract if this isn’t achieved.
  • Balancing maintenance requirements with capacity planning / fleet availability.
  • Comfortable taking out of hours calls / communication from the client and communicating through to the team / relevant shift on site.
  • Strong people leadership and management skills.
  • A relevant Trade Qualification is highly desirable but not essential.
  • Strong proficiency in computer systems, including MS Office 365, timekeeping systems (e.g., KRONOS – desirable but not essential), and asset management databases.
  • Outstanding communication, negotiation, and high-level stakeholder reporting skills.
  • Demonstrated track record of driving WHS/HSEQ processes and cultivating a proactive safety culture.
  • The ability to pass a Rail Medical + Drug & Alcohol Test, and hold a C Class Driving License.

Why Join?

  • Key Infrastructure Sector: Play a crucial role in maintaining critical public rail transport assets in Western Australia.
  • Strong Leadership Scope: Directly shape site operations, lead a passionate team, and partner with an established and stable senior executive leadership team.
  • Career Opportunity: Long-term stability within an established, high-performing rail maintenance contract.
  • Competitive Remuneration: Base salary of $150,000 – $160,000 p/a + Super + Bonus + Vehicle in the form of a company Ute or, Car Allowance, that can be paired with Novated Leasing.
